About Reiki Reiki is an alternative healing modality that originated in Japan. The word Reiki can be broken down to Rei representing a universal higher intelligence, and Ki representing vital energy. The basic premise of Reiki is that through connecting with universal energy the practitioner allows opening for a flow of subtle frequencies that facilitate full body relaxation and allows for restoration and healing.
What to Expect Reiki involves a practitioner laying their hands on or above the clients body in various position in order to facilitate the flow of vital energy. Most people describe the feeling of relaxation during Reiki as being similar to that of massage but is much less invasive since you remain fully clothed and minimal physical contact is made. During a Reiki session you will lay on a comfortable cushioned table in a relaxing setting that may include soft music and relaxing scents with therapeutic essential oils according to your preference. You will be provided with blankets and pillows as necessary to ensure your comfort over the hour long session. After walking you through some deep breathing exersizes, the Practicioner will place hands gently in different positions on the body however this can be done without contact if that is preferred. Throughout the session there may be sensations of heat or tingling as energy activates and moves. This is very unlikely to cause any discomfort but of course you are free to communicate with the practictioner if you are experiencing anything unpleasant. In some cases the Practitioner will intuitively pick up on challenges in the mind or body which will be communicated and discussed after the session.
Benefits Reiki is an excellent way to relax, unwind and open to your natural state of health. The deep relaxation achieved during a reiki session activates the parasympathetic nervous system in order to allow necessary restorative functions of the body such as digestion and cell repair to occur. Many studies have proven Reiki extremely effective for anxiety, depression, and releasing stored trauma in the body. Because there is a natural detoxification process that is activated through the deep renewal of such relaxation it is strongly advised that you hydrate well before and after any session and get adequate rest.
